MARGAUX SAUVE/ GHOSTLY KISSES

CH.89: If you were to categorize or describe the style of your music, what would it be and why?

MS: Ethereal pop

CH.89: What made you want to start a music project and how did you come up with the name?

MS: During my studies at University, I started writing songs and one day I just decided that I wanted to share them. I started to work with Dragos Chiriac (Men I Trust) who produced Ghostly Kisses’ first EP. He found the name in a poem of William Faulkner “Une ballade des dames perdues”. We thought it was a beautiful name to image the airy and romantic music.

CH.89: Can you talk a little bit about your lifestyle as an artist and what that is like?

MS: I try to do creative work every day, whether it’s writing, composing, photography, etc. to always keep my mind open to creativity and new ideas. On tour, I try to read as much as possible and learn about history and listen to new music all the time.

CH.89: When starting out an artistic task, do you think it is better to have a particular direction/set plan guiding your way? Or, is it better to act on impulse and go from there?

MS: At first I try to let my impulse go and not put any barrier. But when an idea becomes more clear, I like to take direction and keep it.

CH.89: What is one thing you love about being an artist?

MS: Being an artist gives me the chance to stay connected with myself everyday and it feels really empowering in my work.

CH.89: Is there anyone in particular, any artists that inspire you in any way?

MS: Björk is a really good example for me of an artist who doesn’t follow any rules. She’s very strong and creative and it is really inspiring for me.

CH.89: What do you think of technology in terms of being a useful tool for artists today?

MS: I think it can be really helpful. It can help you connect with others, and also allows the opportunity to share not only music but your entire creative world with photos and videos.

CH.89: Do you enjoy traveling? If so, do you have a favorite city?

MS: I really love Berlin and New York City. I don’t really know why, but both cities really feel like home to me.

CH.89: Any future goals or plans for your music?

MS: We have a new EP coming early 2020 and after that we will concentrate in writing and composing our first official LP.

CH.89: What does being an artist mean to you?

MS: As an artist I would like to be able to give back to people by sharing music and emotions through my stories. I have often relied on music through bad times and I would like to give back to people and help some people this way.
